Respected trailer manfucturer Freighter received an Australian Desgn Award for its new Ezi-Liner at the Australian International Design Awards on Friday.
The Ezi-Liner takes curtain-sider trailer design to a new level, with a high tensile cable running through the curtain which is remotely tensioned by air-operated hooks.
Instead of taking up to 15 minutes to open a full-size trailer, the Ezi-Liner is released in just seconds, with the operator then able to retract as much, or little, of the curtain as is needed.
Closing the trailer is the reverse of the operation, with the operator closing the curtain and then flicking the switch to the closed position, with the hooks then pulling the cable tight.
The award recognises the trailer for its improvement to operator working conditions, by eliminating potential injuries such as RSI from tensioning the buckles manually, while the lack of buckles means facial injuries from buckles flapping in strong winds are also eliminated.
K&S Group, which has a B-Double Ezi-Liner in its fleet already, says operator acceptance is very high, with no complaints about the new technology.
Also at the Awards, vehicle builder Holden received a Design Mark for its VE Ute, which is the latest version of the local design, and comes as Holden celebrates its 60th year as a car manufacturer.
