Freighter adapts EziLiner into drop deck trailer

Freighter builds drop deck trailer based on award-winning EziLiner design to boost productivity and cut costs

Freighter has built a drop deck trailer based on its award-winning EziLiner design to boost productivity and cut costs.

The Tasmanian based Highland Haulage wanted a drop deck trailer because it optimises deck lengths and maximises load volume.

Managing Director Mick Linger asked for it to be based on the EziLiner design because it replaces the use of buckles and straps for curtain-side trailers.

Freighter engineers had to adapt the trailer’s design because a drop deck trailer has two horizontal plains that make it difficult to achieve the consistent tension levels required for the curtain.

The incorporated two cable guide rollers at the drop point of the trailer that simultaneously ensure the continuity of the cable from the top to lower deck while maintaining the required tension levels.

A single high tensile synthetic cable runs through a series of arcs along both decks of the trailer to generate vertical tension on the trailer curtains to increase operational efficiency by slashing the time taken to load and unload freight.

“Because the drop deck allows us to maximise load volume, we find that we can make multiple drops and pick ups as we work down from Brisbane to Melbourne,” Linger says.

He says customers will benefit because drivers will be able to quickly load or unload freight.

Freighter says it has received positive feedback from drivers about the EziLiner because using a lever to adjust the curtain is easier than the repetitive nature of opening and closing buckles and straps.
