Chinese firm emphasises ease of purchase and use
Foton has pushed to further into the light truck market with the launch of its new Silverback range.
The Chinese vehicle manufacturer says its $39,990 drive away offering, the Foton 65.115 Silverback, is aimed at tradesmen stepping up from a ute for more loadspace or first time truck buyers.
Like all Foton light trucks, the Silverback is powered by a Euro 5 Cummins engine, with 115kw of power and 500Nm of torque from the 3.8L ISF turbo diesel.
Mated to the Cummins engine is a ZF five-speed manual gearbox and the package is tied up with a three year/160,000 km warranty.
The Silverback comes with a 4.5m long and 2.072m wide aluminium drop side tray with a 3-tonne aluminium deck and is rated at 4.5 tonne GVM so it can be driven on a car licence.
“We have set out to make buying a Silverback as easy as possible, particularly for first truck buyers or for those who may have been looking at a used truck,” Foton Trucks Australia general manager Alex Stewart says
“The Silverback is a truck that is ready to work without the complication and challenges of buying a bare cab chassis truck and having a tray or body fitted.
“Buying a truck can be a daunting prospect for those who have never done it before, so we have taken that challenge away and made it as easy as possible and at a price that opposition brands will find it hard to match.”
