Forklifts under the hammer, with online savings

Online auctions popular way to offload fleet and equipment, with savings of up to 50 percent

September 15, 2009

Auction online has become an increasingly popular way to offload fleet and equipment, one auction house says, with savings of up to 50 percent on forklifts.

GraysOnline says it has sold over 1,000 forklifts since it began auctioning warehousing fleet in 2003.

Powerlift Nissan will offload 226 forklifts on the GraysOnline website later this week in an unreserved auction of surplus stock.

GraysOnline CEO Cameron Poolman says online auction is a convenient and cost-effective alternative to showroom shopping.

“The online auctioning of forklifts is increasingly becoming an alternative sales channel for major suppliers in Australia,” GraysOnline CEO Cameron Poolman says.

“We have a leading track record in this area.

“Being an unreserved auction, buyers can save up to 30-50 percent when compared to buying the same used forklift from a traditional retailer. We expect that our unique offering will attract more and more interest from the market.”

Buyers can inspect and test the forklifts at inspection sites in Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Queensland and New South Wales during the sale period.

The Nissan sell-off includes brands Toyota, Crown, Hyster, Linde, Komatsu and Clark, with a variety of units on offer.

“This sale is the largest single online auction of forklifts we’ve ever conducted, and judging from our previous auctions, we expect there will be extremely high interest in this one,” Poolman says.
