Ford unveils specs for new Transit Custom models

The new Ford Transit comes in two models and includes new safety features.


Ford Australia has released specifications and pricing for its two new front wheel drive Ford Transit Custom models.

The short wheel base 290S will have a manufacturers list price of $37,490, while the price of the long wheel base 330L will be set at $37,490.

Both vehicles are powered by a 2.2 litre Duratorq turbo-diesel engine. The Duratorq engine develops engine develops 92kW and 350Nm.

Transmission options are limited to a six-speed manual only. For a limited time after the launch of the new Transit, Ford is offering a factory warranty of five years or 200,000 km (whichever occurs first), two years and 100,000 km more than the standard Ford factory warranty.

“We are signalling to customers that the all-new Transit Custom presents a very compelling reason to buy,” Ford Australia Vice President of Marketing, Sales and Service Graeme Whickman says.

“Not only is the Transit well priced, but it has high levels of safety, practicality and driver appeal.”

The new Transit features a fold-down integrated roof-rack as standard as well as a glazed steel bulkhead that separates the cockpit from the load area. Safety features have been given a boost with curtain and thorax air bags and the Transit has been awarded a 5-NCAP rating in Europe.

The Transit’s dynamic stability control system includes trailer sway control, rollover mitigation, load adaptive control and torque vectoring control as well as anti-lock braking, electronic brake force distribution and emergency brake assist.

The Transit will also feature Ford’s emergency assist feature that automatically calls 000 if the vehicle’s airbags are deployed and the fuel pump shuts down after an impact. This feature uses the driver’s mobile phone for connectivity.

Dimension wise, the 290S has a maximum load space of 5.95m3 while the 330L has 6.83m3 available for heavy duty work. The 290S has a maximum load length of 2,555mm and the 330L has a maximum load length of 2,922 mm.
