Fleurieu Connections works progressing

Construction on the new Aldinga Bridge as part of the wider Fleurieu Connections project has hit a key milestone

One of the largest cranes in South Australia has lifted 12 super-T beams into place that will support the new bridge at Aldinga, which will be part of the new Aldinga Interchange and a key feature of the Main South Road stage 2 duplication project.

Stage 2 of the project is being delivered as part of the $810.4 million Fleurieu Connections project that aims to provide safer and faster journeys to motorists in the region south of Adelaide.

The deck of the new Aldinga bridge will measure 26 metres long and 27 metres wide and will be supported by 53 concrete piles and will be made up of 39,200 tonnes of asphalt to create 86,000 sqm of road pavement.

The 700-tonne crane used to place the super-T beams is approximately 45 metres tall, with this project marking the first time it has bene used on a South Australian government project.

The new bridge is expected to open to traffic at some point in 2025, with the whole project expected to reach completion in 2026.
