First Daimler Foton trucks enter production

The first products of a joint venture between Daimler Trucks and Chinese truck manufacturer Foton have broken cover

July 10, 2012

The first products of a joint venture between Daimler Trucks and Chinese truck manufacturer Foton have broken cover, with the initial batch of Auman trucks leaving the production line.

The joint venture will be branded Beijing Foton Daimler Automotive (BFDA) and allows Foton to draw on Daimler’s experience in diesel engine and emission control design.

The new trucks will be fitted with Daimler’s OM 457 six cylinder engine, allowing the Auman to meet the upcoming ‘China IV’ emission standard, which requires similar pollution reductions as the recently superseded ADR 80/02 regulation.

As part of the partnership a second factory will be established to build Auman trucks, along with Chinese manufacture of the OM 457 engine.
