The Pure Hydrogen HDrive truck is hitting headlines in Australia this week
The launch of Australia’s first hydrogen truck to hit the road has reached mainstream media this week as the new technology sweeps down under.
The new truck was launched in Brisbane by Pure Hydrogen and HDrive, with the fuel-cell truck to be trialled with PepsiCo Australia along a development timeline.
Pure Hydrogen says the Taurus prime mover is under an agreement with PepsiCo. If the latter feels that the vehicle has a commercial use case then it has the option to order more hydrogen vehicles through to 2025.
The Taurus is an Australian designed 220kW 6×2 prime mover that is said to have a driving range of up to 400km and can handle B-Double masses up to 70 tonnes.
Both Sky News and 7News featured stories on Australia’s first hydrogen-powered truck this week as the news showcases Pure Hydrogen’s technology to potential customers via a live demonstration.
“Pure Hydrogen has had productive conversations with potential customers in the heavy vehicle industry, which we will look to convert into value generating relationships,” Pure Hydrogen managing director Scott Brown says.
“We are specifically targeting the heavy transport sector as many view hydrogen as the only avenue to decarbonising the industry.
“There is a growing consensus that increased weight, limited driving range and longer recharging times make battery-electric vehicles unviable for heavy transport. Contrastingly, hydrogen fuel cells are able to overcome these barriers.”
