Global transport and supply chain company FedEx has officially opened a new logistics facility in Bundaberg, Queensland to grow its regional connectivity.
FedEx opened the purpose-built 5,962 square-metre logistics facility in Bundaberg to provide businesses across the Wide Bay-Burnett region with more direct access to domestic and international markets.
Strategically located near Bundaberg Airport and the region’s expanding industrial precinct, the facility enhances access for surrounding communities including Gin Gin, Childers and Biggenden, bringing faster and more reliable logistics solutions closer to regional businesses.
The facility will play a critical role in supporting the region’s key industries, including agriculture, fresh produce, seafood, manufacturing and e-commerce, helping local businesses scale and compete more effectively in global markets.
Designed to improve operational efficiency and network reliability, the facility is equipped with an advanced automated conveyor system capable of sorting up to 1,500 packages per hour, reducing sorting time by up to 30 per cent.
Dedicated trailer zones and streamlined Brisbane-to-Bundaberg linehaul routes will improve vehicle turnaround times, while a telescopic conveyor system reducing manual handling and enhancing loading efficiency. A large weather-protected awning supports the safe staging of heavyweight freight.
“This investment marks an important step in strengthening our network across regional Australia and deepening how we support local businesses,” FedEx Australasia regional vice president Peter Langley says.
“By bringing faster, more reliable services closer to customers in Bundaberg and the surrounding region, we are enabling regional enterprises from family farms to small businesses to access global markets with the same speed and confidence as their metropolitan competitors.”
Bundaberg Region mayor Helen Blackburn, who attended the official opening alongside natural resources and environment portfolio spokesperson Cr Gary Kirk from FedEx’s regional team and customers, hailed the development as a cornerstone for future growth.
“This new FedEx facility is a significant milestone for the Bundaberg region,” Blackburn says.
“This direct infrastructure investment into the Bundaberg region will strengthen supply chain capability, support local employment and create new economic opportunities for not only our community but the greater Wide Bay area.”
Reflecting FedEx commitment to customer accessibility, the site also features an on-site small business shipping hub, providing local business operators with direct access to shipping services, documentation support and customs processing in one convenient location.
Aligned with FedEx global goal to achieve carbon-neutral operations by 2040, the facility incorporates energy-efficient LED lighting, skylights and weather-protected freight handling areas that improve operational efficiency and energy use while enhancing the working environment.
