The FCAI says more work is still needed to clean Australia’s fuel quality
The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) acknowledges the Federal government’s decision to allocate $250 million in funding towards improving Australia’s fuel quality.
The government announcement was made as bodies like the FCAI lobby to clean Australia’s national fuel quality by reducing the amount of sulphur in fuel.
The FCAI says increasing fuel quality is an important step towards reducing Australia’s transport sector emissions.
“A reduction in sulphur is a move in the right direction,” FCAI chief executive Tony Weber says.
“This will assist Australia’s internal combustion fleet to run more efficiently.”
However, the FCAI says more works needs to be done to bring Australia’s fuel quality in line with global standards, as Weber calls for more funding to help clean the country’s fuel quality.

“Australia’s fuel quality is lagging two decades behind the advanced world,” he says.
“This adversely impacts both the environment and the engines available to Australian motorists.
“If taxpayer funds are used to assist the refining industry, Australians should be provided with world quality fuel in return.”
