EVOL introduces new gas engine technology

EVOL LNG is partnering with American Power Group to sell and service its engine technology in Australia

July 30, 2012

With new refuelling infrastructure making natural gas more accessible, EVOL LNG is partnering with American Power Group (APG) to sell and service its engine technology in Australia.

EVOL LNG will be the Australian agents for the VH5000D natural gas – diesel dual fuel technology. There will be certified installers in Melbourne and Perth initially, although other locations will be added in the future.

The VH5000D unit can run natural gas and diesel simultaneously with an average diesel substitution rate of 40 to 50 percent, although peak rates can be higher, or 100 percent diesel if the vehicle is out of gas refuelling range.

The conversion hardware is mounted external to the engine so it does not interfere with OEM operating parameters, including coolant, oil, exhaust gas and intake air temperatures.

Kleenheat Gas General Manager Graham Smith says the V5000HD system underwent extensive testing and product improvement needed for Australian conditions prior to its commercial release.

“Our own testing and customer trials in Australia have been extremely successful giving us confidence in the suitability of the conversion for Australian conditions,” Smith says.

The V5000HD system is suitable for fitment onto a wide range of diesel commercial vehicle engines.

However, Smith says EVOL LNG will review the suitability of the dual fuel system to a customer’s specific application.
