Landmark Hino fire truck on display at Brisbane Truck Show

1000th 4WD Hino unit for Victoria’s Country Fire Authority

May 1, 2013

The one thousandth Hino truck to enter service with Victoria’s Country Fire Authority will be the centrepiece of the Hino Australia stand at the Brisbane Truck Show next month.

The four-wheel-drive 500 Series GT will bolster the CFA’s fire fighting resources, which were tested again during the recent fire season.

Hino Australia President and Chief Operating Officer Steve Lotter says it will be an honour to present the truck at the Show.

“The CFA and its 60,000 volunteers protect more than three million Victorians from the effects of Australia’s natural disasters – not just bushfires,” Lotter says.

As well as the CFA truck, Hino will display its latest diesel/electric hybrid technologies, which it says can deliver substantial reductions in fuel use and carbon dioxide emissions when compared with conventional diesel technology.

New gearbox options will also be on display, including the Proshift automated manual transmissions introduced last year to the FC and FD 500 Series models.

Hino says the transmissions are designed to combine the favourable fuel economy and durability of a manual with the ease of operation of a traditional torque-converter automatic.

Show-goers will also be able to see a video from this year’s Dakar Rally highlighting Hino’s fourth consecutive class win.

The 2013 Brisbane Truck Show is on at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from May 16 to 19.
