Nissan to launch new van at Tokyo Motor Show

Nissan has confirmed its new medium duty cargo van will be at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show

November 9, 2011

As the Japanese vehicle manufacturing industry returns to full production after the March earthquakes and tsunami, Nissan has confirmed its new medium duty cargo van will be at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show.

Scheduled for launch in the Japanese summer of 2012, the new van is codenamed NV350, and Nissan claims a number of advances over the previous model.

Technical details of the van will be confirmed at the van’s release, however Nissan says it will feature a ‘start’ button most likely linked to a smart key the driver can keep in their pocket.

The NV350 is expected to offer a choice of diesel or petrol engines, as well as an automatic transmission option.

At least two seating configurations will offered, as either a traditional van with single row seating, or a crew cab with a split fold seat back to accommodate long loads.

The cargo space will take loads up to 3 metres long, while pre-fitted captive nuts allow the internal fit-out to be configured specifically to suit individual needs.

Pre-release images show at least one sliding door on the passenger side, however a second slider may be offered on the driver’s side. Shots also show a lift-up tailgate but it is unclear if barn doors will be available as an option.
