Engine glitch prompts Kenworth recall

Cummins engine software may allow it to operate without diesel exhaust fluid

May 4, 2012

A recall notice has been issued for Kenworth T359 and T403 models built this year and last.

The notice relates to potential failures in emissions controls.

“Exhaust emissions may not comply with the Australian Design Rule 80/03-Emission Control for Heavy Vehicles,” the notice says.

“The Cummins ISMe5 engine software can allow the engine to operate without the use of diesel exhaust fluid.”

Parent company Paccar Australia will notify customers by registered mail about the problem.
