Engine expert lends knowledge to tech conference

Detroit Diesel engineer to lead truck engine session at this year's Technical and Maintenance Conference in Melbourne

Detroit Diesel will make an appearance at this year’s Technical Maintenance Conference, following the announcement one its leading engineers will take part in the truck engine session.

Terry Bistue, who is Detroit Diesel’s vehicle tester, will lead the session which will discuss the development of current and future truck engines as well as fuel optimisation and emissions.

Bistue’s career spans more than 30 years, and Australian Trucking Association (ATA) Chairman Trevor Martyn says he will provide invaluable advice on the latest trends in the industry.

“Terry has not gained his exceptional technical knowledge by sitting behind a desk all day,” Martyn says

“He is someone who has spent most of his career out in the field, driving and testing the vehicles and products that have taken workshop and fleet operations to a new level of efficiency.”

Martyn says Bistue has worked extensively with major US fleets to improve engine performance as well as boost fuel economy.

“Over the last 18 months Terry has been a key figure in the development of the ADR 80.02 Series 60 engine for compliance to the current Australian and New Zealand emissions legislation,” Martyn says.

With Bistue’s involvement, Martyn says the conference will help equip attendees with measures they can introduce to improve fuel efficiency in their fleets.

The Technical and Maintenance Conference is run by the ATA and the Australian Road Transport and Suppliers Association (ARTSA).

The conference, to be held at the Moonee Valley Function Centre in Melbourne, will run for two days from November 9.
