The NSW TrainLink Elvis Express has once again ventured out to the central NSW town with many Elvis Presley fans onboard
Elvis Presley impersonators and fans in New South Wales have kicked off their annual pilgrimage aboard the NSW TrainLink Elvis Express.
Around 250 passengers took part in the seven-hour journey from Sydney’s central station to NSW central west town Parkes yesterday in preparation for a five-day festival dedicated to the King of Rock and Roll.
“In the tradition of Elvis’ Mystery Train, this is a specially branded five-carriage train service that rocked and rolled Elvis fans all the way to Parkes,” NSW arts and tourism minister John Graham says.
“I hope the train full of fans from all walks of life enjoyed the music and the beautiful view as they travelled from our harbour city to the big dish.”
Graham farewelled the train ahead of its 365km journey, while NSW regional transport and roads minister Jenny Aitchson travelled onboard it.
“The Elvis Express is more than just a train ride – it is also an experience that offers passengers the chance to celebrate and enjoy a nostalgic journey in the vibrant and festive atmosphere of the Presley era,” Aitchson says.
“Through special event services such as these, as well as its regular scheduled services, NSW TrainLink remains committed to regional communities and passengers who are looking to enjoy the ride to events all over NSW.”
The festival has been going for 31 years and runs until January 14, with this year’s theme being ‘Jailhouse Rock’. Transport for NSW says that it is expected to attract more than 25,000 fans.
NSW transport also estimates that the event brings in $15 million to the central west region each year, with all accommodation fully booked in Parkes and flow-on bookings in surrounding towns.
