Queensland-based companies take electric Volvo delivery

Three new electric trucks delivered to JR Stephens and Co and Rise of the Phoenix will help decarbonise Volvo Group Australia’s supply chain
Rise of the Phoenix and JR Stephens and Co have partnered to help decarbonise Volvo's supply chain.

Volvo Group Australia has supplied one Volvo FM Electric and two Volvo FH Electrics to Queensland-based transport companies JR Stephens and Co, and Rise of the Phoenix.

JR Stephens and Co runs a fleet of roughly 50 trucks and 84 trailers across Australia’s east coast and mainly deals in bulk haulage.

Rise of the Phoenix specialises in the transport of trucks and heavy vehicles around Australia.

The trio of trucks will be used to transport components from local suppliers and warehousing to Volvo Group Australia’s Wacol factory in Brisbane, and will be utilised in Volvo’s own supply chain.

Volvo Trucks Australia Vice President Tom Chapman says VGA will continue to pursue decarbonisation in its road transport supply chain.

“Like most Australian businesses, we’re heavily dependent on road transport for our everyday operations,” Chapman says.

“These trucks are the first heavy duty BEVs to join the fleet that services our factory and warehousing, which demonstrates our commitment to decarbonising our own operations where possible.

“The first BEV to become a part of the VGA supply chain was a medium-duty Volvo FE Electric that was delivered to GEODIS in Sydney to supply our Minto parts warehouse.

“We are committed to take opportunities towards decarbonising our operations.”

JR Stephens Managing Director Nathan Stephens and Rise of the Phoenix Managing Director Froniga Riana both believe the introduction of electric Volvos into their fleets mark a huge step forward for their respective businesses.

“This truck represents a huge step for us,” Stephens says. “I’m proud our company will be playing a part in VGA’s journey towards a fossil-free future.

“It’s a testament to the power of collaboration and the shared commitment to innovation that will drive us all toward a more sustainable tomorrow.”

“Partnering with Volvo Group Australia on our decarbonisation journey has been a steep yet rewarding learning curve, helping us set a new standard for collaboration in the move towards sustainable transport.”
