DP World has announced the implementation of a fully electric internal transfer vehicle (ITV) within its operations at Port of Brisbane’s Fisherman Island.

The electric ITV is the first of its kind in DP World’s Australian fleet and is projected to eliminate over 120,000 litres of diesel fuel consumption annually.

It is designed to carry containers up to 88 tonnes within the port, which is a key trade hub for Queensland’s agricultural exports, motor vehicle imports and containerised trade.

With DP World aiming for a near-term carbon footprint reduction target of 42 per cent by 2030 and net-zero by 2050, Executive Vice President Oceania Nicolaj Noes says the addition of the electric ITV is an important step.

“Every link in the supply chain matters. While this may seem like a small step, it is a critical one.

“To fully decarbonise the global logistics network, we need to address every link, big and small.

“This initiative exemplifies what is possible when innovators and regulators collaborate to set new standards for safe and sustainable operations.”

DP World collaborated with Port of Brisbane and the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator to successfully integrate the electric ITV into its port operations, with Port of Brisbane CEO Neil Stephens congratulating all parties involved.

“We welcome the continued investment and innovation by DP World and its commitment to sustainability, which aligns to our own ambitions for the long-term sustainable development of the Port of Brisbane,” Stephens says.

“As Port Manager, we’re focused on creating the conditions that support our customers’ innovation and to help them deliver safety, productivity and sustainability outcomes that benefit the economy and community.”
