Global logistics giant DSV’s collaboration agreement with Volvo Trucks has shifted continents, with its Singaporean operations to benefit from the delivery of two new electric trucks.
Earlier this year the two companies signed an agreement for the delivery of 300 electric trucks for DSV’s European operations which was, at the time, one of the largest commercial orders for Volvo electric trucks in history.
The models added to DSV’s Singapore operations are a Volvo FL Electric and Volvo FM Electric. Both models feature and all-electric drivetrain to reduce noise pollution and have more cost-efficient operation and maintenance expenses than traditional diesel vehicles.
“Long-lasting partnerships and a dedicated determination to truly make an impact are crucial for achieving substantial CO2 reductions,” Managing Director of Volvo Trucks, Southeast Asia and Japan Anna Engblom says.
“As a manufacturer we need to be prepared to manage changes that can occur without much warning. We will always be able to sell trucks, but we need to develop business models and make sure we can adapt our size to match new conditions.
“We also need to continue to deliver high-quality products and help our customers achieve profitability with their Volvo trucks.”
The acquisition of the pair of trucks is part of DSV’s wider global sustainability targets and the goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
DSV recently progressed with its acquisition of DB Schenker for EUR 14.3 billion to cement itself as a leader in the global logistics industry, in what is one of the largest strategic moves in the company’s history.
Managing Director of DSV Air & Sea for Singapore and Malaysia Gino Marzola says the long-term sustainability targets of the company – and their application in Singapore – will ensure DSV can present a stronger product to customers.
“Launching our new electric fleet marks a pivotal moment for DSV in Singapore,” Marzola says.
“It’s not just about adopting new technology; it’s about leading the way toward a greener, more sustainable future.
“We are thrilled by the positive feedback from clients and are confident this initiative will bring us closer to achieving our long-term sustainability goals.”
There are currently over 4200 electric Volvo trucks operating in a total of 46 countries.
As part of the agreement for the two new trucks in Singapore, Volvo is providing seven years of comprehensive support to cover all servicing and repairs, while drivers of UD Trucks Singapore were provided with training to operate the vehicles.
“We are excited to be part of this green transition alongside DSV and Volvo Trucks,” General Manager of UD Trucks Singapore Joseph Heng says.
“Providing comprehensive training and after-support to ensure these trucks deliver on their promise is at the heart of our commitment to helping Singapore achieve its sustainability goals.
“We are confident DSV will see excellent operational performance and long-term value from these vehicles.”
