Do your part to promote the industry, ATA urges operators

ATA says trucking operators should play a part in promoting the industry, such as holding sausage sizzles

December 17, 2009

The nation’s peak truck lobby group has urged operators to do their bit to promote the industry during the inaugural TruckWeek.

To be held from February 21 to 27, TruckWeek is designed to bring together industry associations and trucking companies to promote safety, the importance of the industry and careers in trucking.

The Australian Trucking Association’s (ATA) Chairman, Trevor Martyn, says businesses should hold sausage sizzles for their staff, invite speakers to talk about health issues and ask members from local service clubs to visit their depots to learn about the role the industry plays.

“The ATA and our member organisations will use the week to talk as a group to politicians in Canberra about key issues like road safety,” Martyn says.

“In addition, the ATA is encouraging every trucking operator to put in some time to conduct a TruckWeek 2010 event for their staff or the local community.”

He says businesses can also attend events to be run by the ATA’s member organisations.

The group has set up a website for member organisations to post event details.

“Starting in January, the website will feature news updates, great ideas about possible events, resource information, and an online form to register events,” Martyn says.
