Diesel prices reach six-week high

FUEL PRICES: Average diesel prices reach six-week high, rising by more than 1 cent a litre nationally

Average diesel prices reached a six week high last week, rising by more than 1 cent a litre.

Diesel prices rose by an average of 1.3 cents per litre for the week ending January 15, continuing on from the six month high reached the previous week.

Terminal gate pricing data from the Australian Institute of Petroleum shows prices in all states apart from Darwin hovering around the 118 cents per litre mark throughout the week.

Diesel in Melbourne was the cheapest in the country at 118.1 cents per litre, closely followed by Brisbane and Sydney which averaged 118.3 and 118.4 cents per litre respectively.

Adelaide averaged 118.6 cents per litre, while Darwin was the most expensive with 122.9 cents a litre.

The figure was 3.8 cents higher than Perth, which finished as the second most expensive city for the week at 119.1 cents per litre.
