Diesel jumps again

Average diesel prices rose in the week ended June 21, by a national average of 2.7 cents per litre

Average diesel prices rose in the week ended June 21, by a national average of 2.7 cents per litre, according to terminal gate pricing data from the Australian Institute of Petroleum.

The AIP data is based on information provided by BP Australia, Caltex, Shell Australia and ExxonMobil.

Prices in all states excluding Darwin hovered around the 116 to 118 cents per litre mark throughout the week, keeping in tow with similar rises over the last few weeks.

Melbourne’s diesel continued to be the cheapest in the country, averaging 117.1 cents for the week up 3.7 cents from the previous week and remaining slightly cheaper than Brisbane where the average prices at the pumps finished at 117.3.

For the first time in many weeks Adelaide’s diesel was cheaper than Sydney’s with the South Australian capital’s prices averaging at 117.5, which was 0.1 cent per litre cheaper than its New South Wales counterpart.

Darwin as usual topped the list with an average diesel price of 121.8 cent per litre- 3.6 cents higher than Perth which finished as the second most expensive city at 118.2 cents a litre.
