DHL has appointed insider Amadou Diallo as Chief Executive Officer DHL Freight.

Diallo, recently interviewed in SCR’s August issue, will be responsible for DHL’s international Road and Rail Freight Services.

Prior to his new responsibility, Diallo was Chief Executive Officer of DHL Global Forwarding for Africa and South Asia Pacific.

He has been a member of the DHL Global Forwarding Freight Executive Board since 2004.

In August, Diallo reported the company’s plans to launch a pan-African road freight service, DHL Connect, roll out an
expanded Less than Container Load (LCL) network with 14 new routes and establish four Oil and Energy Centres of Excellence.

“Africa is one of DHL’s fastest growing regions in the network markets,” Diallo says.

“We have the finest team in Africa and, this year we have focused on investing and growing our human resources and infrastructure to ensure African businesses have access to the logistics excellence they need.”

Also in 2011, Diallo was named Africa’s Innovation Leader of the Year in the Ai Investment Awards.

Diallo was appointed to head the South Asia Pacific region in June 2008, prior to which he was Chief Financial Officer of DP DHL Logistics Division where as Managing Director, he was responsible for the integration of the supply chain management company Exel.

In 2010, DHL aligned Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia Pacific into one operating region under the leadership of Diallo.

DHL will now expand the alignment and creates the new region Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) under the leadership of Thomas Nieszner, who succeeds Diallo.

Nieszner, who previously held the function of CEO Global Forwarding Europe/Central and Eastern Europe at DHL since 2006 will be responsible for driving further growth and development in the regions Europe, Middle East and Africa.

DHL was the first international logistics company to start operations in and out of Africa over 30 years ago and is today the undisputed market leader with the largest group of logistics experts dedicated to Africa.

Both Amadou Diallo and Thomas Nieszner will continue to report directly to Roger Crook.
