DHL Global Forwarding yesterday
opened its new $61.6 million facility in Matraville, Sydney after completing construction in May.
The air and ocean freight giant says the investment combines its two existing Sydney sites into a new 19,619 square metre custom-built facility.
Of this, 15,000 square metres is warehousing space and 3,000 square metres is temperature controlled space.
According to DHL, this is the largest allocation for temperature controlled space of any freight forwarder in Australia.
Located close to Port Botany and Sydney International Airport, DHL expects the new facility to greatly improve customer service levels, especially in its target industries of pharmaceutical, technology and mining industries.
The company says the new consolidated facility is required to support the significant growth it has experienced in these sectors in the past 12 months.
“The new premises provide for business growth and improved process capabilities which will enhance our productivity in the processing of our air and ocean freight cargo,” says DHL Global Forwarding South Pacific CEO Tony Boll.
“Combining our Sydney operational sites into one purpose-built facility ensures we are able to meet the future demands of our customers.”
The building also comprises almost 5,000 square metres of office space making it one of the largest in south Sydney.
