May 29, 2013

Global logistics company DHL Supply Chain plans to spend EU$140 million (AU$188,000 million) on growth in South East Asia by 2015.

The company will open seven new facilities in South East Asia by end 2013, and plans to double its size, with investments in transportation, IT solutions, warehouse footprint and staff strength.

The expansion plans are hoped to cater for growing consumer, retail, technology and automotive sectors, as the region’s middle class grows.

“These investments in quality, facilities, transport capabilities, IT and people are necessary to meet the needs of our customers in the region,” South and Southeast Asia DHL Supply Chain CEO Oscar de Bok says.

The seven new facilities to be completed in 2013 include bespoke solutions to target growth in specific industries.

Earlier this year, DHL launched a 17,000sq m warehouse in Cimanggis, Indonesia, for the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry.

The company will also launch a new facility at Bangna, Thailand this year to support growth in the retail, fashion and consumer sectors, and a new facility in Bac Ninh, Vietnam to cater
for the retail, consumer and technology sectors.

Meanwhile, developments are underway for new facilities in Singapore and parts of Malaysia.

The company also plans to grow its staff strength by about 65 percent to 25,000 people and add more than 50 percent more warehouse capacity to operate around 1,400,000sq m across the region.
