Dematic, Toll Group link for automation technology in new warehouse
Automated supply chain technology firm Dematic reports the opening of a new distribution centre (DC) in Sydney after linking with Toll Group with a focus on e-commerce automation.
The partnership was first announced in 2016, revealing plans to build a facility that was an “Australian first in automation for eCommerce processing and distribution” at the time, with construction at the Prestons Logistics Estate site concluding earlier this year.
The 32,000-square-metre facility contains 15,000sqm of automated space.
Its warehousing solutions include multishuttles that store, buffer and sequence 80,000 stock-keeping units (SKUs); 24 goods-to-person workstations; and 10 automated guided vehicles (AGVs) that handle repetitive transport tasks.
Dematic says Toll sought out its services for a “highly automated DC to meet increasing demands from its customers for efficient e-Commerce and omnichannel order fulfilment”.
Toll also worked with Dematic to define and implement support systems from other vendors to ensure complete integration, the company says.
“We look at the occupation, health and safety requirements. We look at order accuracy to prevent returns coming back to the facility,” Toll general manager of speciality retail Robert Charles says.
