Demand surges for Australian Truck Radio

The truckie radio app is going from strength to strength courtesy of its Long Haul Legends podcast and range of great tracks

The biggest internet radio station for truckies across Australia – Australian Truck Radio – is growing thanks to the app and the popularity of the Long Haul Legends podcast.

More than 39,000 listeners now tune into Australian Truck Radio via the website and the mobile app for a variety of classic hits, traffic updates and exclusive interviews curated specifically for truck drivers.

It is also the exclusive home of the Long Haul Legends podcast series which is dedicated to the inspiring voices of the Australian road transport industry.

A popular episode involves a conversation between Jacquelene Brotherton of Transport Women Australia Limited and Andy Divall of Divall’s Earthmoving and Bulk Haulage.

Divall covers the history of the business and his family and delves into other topics such as engagement with associations, the importance of training and retaining talent and giving back to the industry.

Earlier this year, the Long Haul Legends podcast has also featured the Meat & Livestock Association, Toll Group, Morgan Transport, Lindsay Bros, Wickham Freight Lines and Nolans Transport.

For Simon Smith, founder and manager of Australian Truck Radio, this digital focus solves the age-old dilemma faced by drivers travelling long distances who were previously scanning the radio waves constantly as they rolled along the strongest local signal to tune in.

Between the web-based Australian Truck Radio player and the app, listeners can simply lock on and let it run.

Smith said the station’s music mix is wide, eclectic and fresh to meet the requests of its audience and limit repetition as much as possible.

With drivers locked on for hours on end as they traverse the long highways of Australia the station aims to become part of the journey – another voice around a virtual campfire where truckies across the land share the same experience at the same time.

Listeners are encouraged to share feedback, news, anniversaries, birthdays, song requests, shoutouts and more simply by sending a text message to 0401 912 255, via the Facebook page or through the website.

Smith is pleased with how responsive and positive the trucking industry is to the programming of Australian Truck Radio.

“There’s always something going on in the trucking industry,” he said. “Every day we receive calls about the music and how our content is always on point. Truckies love it and that’s what we’re all about.”

There’s no hiding the passion for radio in Smith’s voice – just like the trucking industry the station simply doesn’t stop and it’s ready to serve.

“We listen to you, because you listen to us,” he said.
