Queensland company offers operators better fuel economy and extended engine life at the same time
With fuel prices hovering at record highs, one Queensland company is offering operators better fuel economy, and extended engine life at the same time.
Brid Walker of Cost Effective Maintenance says he supplies FTC Decarbonizer to clients who report not just fuel savings, but increased service life from their equipment.
Walker says FTC Decarbonizer promotes multiple flame initiators throughout the combustion chamber (rather than a single flame development point), quoting one Rio Tinto owned coal mine that shifted 12.8 percent more material, yet increased its fuel usage by only 3.4 percent.
In terms of improved service life, he says the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) technical paper studied a fleet of 69 units, which were being rebuilt every 8000 hours, with severe carbon build up a major problem.
Walker says the fleet reported improved serviceability and reduced wear of piston rings and was able to reuse cylinder liners that were previously unable to be used more than once, while fuel efficiency also improved by 7 percent.
He says this is a common theme with companies that use the product, particularly those involved in harsh environments such as mining and other off-road applications.
