Deadline approaching for submissions to Competition Policy Review

Deadline is set at November 17 for responses to the review.

Less than two weeks remain for submissions to be lodged in response to a review that recommends wholesale changes to road pricing.

The deadline for submissions to the Competition Policy Review Draft Report is November 17.

The panel leading the review says the deadline has been set to give it enough to time to consider feedback before it delivers a final report to the Federal Government in March next year.

“If submissions are received after this date, the panel cannot be confident that it will be able to fully consider and test submission content and still meet these external deadlines. This is particularly so if late submissions suggest significant or extensive deviations from the draft report recommendations and findings,” the panel says.

The report, released in September, advocates a move toward direct user charges so people are charged based on their location, time of travel and congestion.

The report claims the existing system gives the trucking industry an unfair advantage over rail freight and is leading to inefficient road investment decisions.

“Reform of road pricing and provision should be a priority‚ĶTechnologies are available that allow for more widespread application of cost-reflective pricing in roads, taking into account location, time and congestion,” the review says.
