Global logistics giant Maersk has partnered with Danone to help the world-leading food and beverage company reduce its logistics greenhouse gas emissions.
Danone produces recognisable global food brands including Evian, Activia and YoPro.
The partnership will utilise the Maersk ECO Delivery Ocean product, which is based on reduced greenhouse gas emission fuels like biodiesel or bio-methanol which are produced solely from waste feedstocks.
With the applied version of ECO Delivery Ocean by Danone the greenhouse gas emissions are reduced by more than 40 per cent compared to conventional fossil fuels.
Danone Global Chief Procurement Officer Jean-Yves Krummenacher says the move to utilise Maersk ECO Delivery Ocean progression towards Danone’s goal to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.
“We are happy to partner with Maersk through Danone’s Partner for Growth program,” Krummenacher says. “The ECO Delivery Ocean product and its reduced greenhouse gas emissions will align well with our decarbonisation strategy to focus primarily on alternative fuels and multimodal transportation.
“Maersk is an important partner and using their product to reduce CO2 emissions on sea freight marks yet another step in our decarbonisation journey.”
Danone has committed to net zero emissions by 2050, while Maersk has committed to net zero emissions by 2040 and is the first shipping and logistics company which has a net zero pathway that has been approved by the Science-Based Target initiative (SBTI).
The partnership between the two companies also involves inland transport solutions and dedicated control towers.
