Daimler Trucks launches Detroit as the power brand

Daimler unveils the new Detroit brand for its powertrain products

October 21, 2011

Daimler Trucks North America used the recent American Trucking Association management conference in Texas to unveil the new Detroit brand for its powertrain products.

While the Detroit Diesel name is a familiar one to transport operators in Australia, the new Detroit brand will cover all future powertrain development for the company.

Andreas Renschler, who is responsible for Daimler Trucks and Daimler Buses, says the new brand name builds on the 70-year heritage of Detroit Diesel globally.

The ‘DD’ engine-line up includes the DD13 and DD15 currently offered in Australia. The soon-to-be-released DD16 will be used in Freightliner and Western Star trucks and will also replace the current V8 engine in the Mercedes-Benz Actros with the introduction of Euro 6 regulations.

“The Detroit brand of powertrain components continues our commitment to innovation, which is the essence of DTNA,” Daimler CEO and President Martin Daum says.

“Based on the existing Detroit Diesel brand long synonymous with quality, reliability, fuel efficiency, power and performance, the new Detroit brand will be the platform for all current and future DTNA optimized vertically integrated powertrain components.”
