Daimler trucks boss Bernhard departs

Zetsche step in as replacement is sought

Daimler Trucks & Buses is without one of its most senior commercial vehicles executives – Wolfgang Bernhard.

Daimler says Bernhard cites personal reasons for the move adding Bernhard will be released from his duties “with immediate effect”.

“We regret this resolution, but we have a number of outstanding managers to succeed. We thank Wolfgang Bernhard for his committed work and respect his personal decision,” supervisory board chairman Manfred Bischoff says, with Daimler.

Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche will head Daimler Trucks & Buses until a successor is appointed.

A former Volkswgen cars CEO, Bernhard became head of the Mercedes-Benz Vans division in 2009 and was appointed to the board of management of Daimler AG in February 2010.

Until March 2013, he was board of management member for production and procurement Mercedes-Benz Cars & Mercedes-Benz Vans and has been responsible for Daimler Trucks & Buses since April 2013.

Since then, he has overseen Daimler’s heavy technology commitment globally and the push into platooning and vehicle-to-vehicle communications.
