Daimler Truck AG has unveiled its new path to sustainable transportation in anticipation of Hanover’s IAA Transportation 2024 trade show, and has placed its focus on its upcoming e-flagship vehicle, the battery electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600.

The eActros has a high battery capacity of over 600 kilowatt hours and can achieve a range of 500 kilometres without immediate charging. Its range was achieved under realistic conditions reflecting standard usage with a 40-tonne gross combination mass.

Provided charging facilities are available, Daimler says the eActros will be able to surpass 1000 kilometres per day should intermediate charging be utilised during prescribed driver breaks.

Series production of the eActros will commence at the end of November at the Mercedes-Benz Wörth plant, with the first customer vehicles set to be produced and registered before the end of 2024.

Since sales began at the end of 2023, Daimler Truck has already recorded 2000 orders for the eActros 600, and there are also letters of intent totalling a four-digit figure.

Daimler AG board member responsible for Mercedes-Benz Trucks Karin Rådström believes the eActros 600 is a strong rival to any diesel truck on the market.

“Our eActros 600 is a strong alternative to a diesel truck, thanks to its range of 500 kilometres on one battery charge,” Rådström says.

“With its high energy efficiency, it will be profitable for fleet operators. Now it is imperative for governments, the energy sector and industry to act together to drive forward the expansion of public charging infrastructure.”

The announcement of construction commencing on the eActros 600 has come soon after it was announced Rådström will replace long-term incumbent Martin Daum as CEO of Daimler Truck AG, and will step into the role on October 1, 2024.

Daimler Truck AG will also be presenting the all-electric Next Generation eCanter from FUSO in multiple body variants at the IAA in Hanover.

Member of the board responsible for Daimler Truck Asia Karl Deppen says the FUSO is establishing itself as Asia’s first-choice heavy BEV.

“As a pioneer of e-mobility, the FUSO eCanter has in the meantime become a proven all-rounder in local CO2-neutral transportation,” Deppen says.

“Currently available in 38 markets, it proves its abilities in day-to-day service for customers around the globe.

“With more than 100 variants, the eCanter covers 85 per cent of the use cases of conventional vehicles and is therefore well suited for the diverse use cases of our customers.”
