Industry stalwarts responsible for the 1968 inaugural Queensland Truck Show have been recognised with the CVIAQ Industry Recognition Award.
The award was handed 10 people from different parts of the trucking industry as the CVIAQ acknowledged the 40th anniversary of the Queensland Truck and Machinery Show.
Recipients were awarded following the company’s annual general meeting on October 22.
Spencer Grammer, Ed Kopittke and Bernie Quinn, all from Hallmark Trailers were recognised alongside Theodore van Fleet from Australian Truck Sales.
Robert Slack, Val Burn, John Wyman, Bill Hart, Des Mitchell and Henry Townsend were also rewarded for their efforts for the creation and subsequent success of the show.
The group of 10 was also responsible for organising the second show and strengthening the annual event throughout the 1970s.
The group also established the Commercial Vehicle Industry Association of Queensland in 1970 and became the team who initially administered the running of the association.
They also played a significant role in bringing the individual state commercial vehicle associations together to form the Commercial Vehicle Industry Association of Australia (CVIAA).
Of the four surviving members of the group, van Fleet and Mitchell were in attendance to receive the awards. Family members were invited to attend to receive the awards on the behalf of the remaining recipients.
Van Fleet says he is honoured to be acknowledged for his and the group’s efforts in developing the show and the CVIAA early on.
The CVIAQ will also recognise the efforts of the group at next years show, which will be held in May.
