Queensland apprentice wins national award at the first HVIA awards night
The first Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia (HVIA) National Industry Awards Night has been run and won, with Cummins South Pacific’s Zoe Bull taking out the inaugural National Apprentice of the Year award.
Held on Friday night at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, the awards night brought together industry members, staff and guests to congratulate a range of nominees and award winners.
Based in Carole Park, Queensland, the newly crowned apprentice of the year, Zoe Bull, was presented with a trophy and tools to the value of $1,300 on the night by former HVIA president Bob Martin and earnt the right for a perpetual trophy to be displayed in her workplace for the next 12 months.
According to her citation, Bull was applauded for her attitude and commitment to her role at Cummins.
“Perhaps it’s a carryover from her time in the Navy, but Zoe’s punctuality, preparation and attention to detail, particularly with regards safety, is exemplary,” the citation says.
“Zoe’s excellent troubleshooting skills and use of diagnostic tools are highly regarded in the Cummins workshop. One supervisor is quoted as saying ‘if I could have twenty Zoe’s, I would be a very happy supervisor.’
“To complement her apprenticeship (as a Diesel Engine Specialist), Zoe has also completed a Certificate IV in Business and Frontline Management and is working through a Diploma of Leadership and Management.
“Somewhat humbly, considering Zoe is already regarded as something of a benchmark for other Cummins apprentices around the country, she has expressed her desire to work her way up to a Branch Manager someday.
“Zoe’s supervisors feel that Zoe is selling herself short and see her more likely as a Cummins leader on a global scale in the future.”
Event sponsor National Transport Insurance (NTI)’s national development manager of transport Craig Carmody says the “industry has been built on the back of innovators who have come through the ranks with a trade qualification as their foundation.”
“I particularly want to pay tribute to Zoe, as the inaugural National Apprentice of the Year,” he says. “She sets the perfect example of everything about this award that we are here to support.
