Bulk goods retailer Costco has added to its portfolio of stores in Australia by opening two more in Sydney and Canberra.
The United States retailing giant now has three stores, with its first outlet opening in Melbourne in 2009.
Costco regional operations manager Rick Carlson says drivers through different companies such as Linfox deliver goods to the three stores several times a day, seven days a week.
He says last week’s opening was busy as anticipated and that “business is brisk”.
“It’s typical to any opening that we have anywhere in the world where you have a heavy volume of customers which then stabilises in week two and three,” Carlson says.
“Right now we use refrigerated depot services and freight forwarders to help deliver goods. We are going very well and are exceeding our expectations on all three sites right now.
Employing 1,000 workers across its three sites, Costco is expecting to build up to six more stores across the country.
