Contracts awarded for Princes Highway upgrade projects

Aurecon Australasia and MRB Technical Services have been awarded contracts to progress two critical Princes Highway upgrade projects

Contracts have now been signed for specialists to carry out concept design and environmental assessment of the $1.44 billion Princes Freeway upgrade projects.

The $940 million Milton Ulladulla Bypass and $500 million Princes Highway duplication between Jervis Bay Road and Hawken Road have been listed as priority projects by Transport for NSW due to their potential to improve road safety and freight access while cutting congestion and travel times in the area.

Aurecon Australasia Pty Ltd has been awarded a contract for the development of the concept design and environmental assessment, including Environmental Impact Statement.

The concept design will include confirmation of the design features, such as the lane configuration and intersections connecting to the existing highway. It will also provide more certainty on the project’s footprint and boundaries, including local road access during the construction and operation of the bypass.

A contract for the concept design and environmental assessment has been awarded to a joint venture partnership between Mott MacDonald Australia Pty Limited, RPS AAP Consulting Pty Limited and BG&E Pty Limited named MRB Technical Services.

This project will provide two lanes in each direction for six kilometres of the highway between Jervis Bay Road and Hawken Road, separated by a median barrier, as well as an intersection upgrade at Hawken Road, Tomerong.

“Today marks a significant milestone for our region, with contracts now signed to progress the Milton Ulladulla Bypass and the Princes Highway upgrade,” State Member for South Coast Liza Butler says.

“These projects are essential investments in our local infrastructure, paving the way for safer, faster and more reliable travel for everyone.

“Projects of this scale take time to ensure planning and delivery is considered and that we get it right. We appreciate the patience of our local communities and thank them for their input so far.”

“This is a significant milestone with two major projects progressing into key development phases,” NSW Regional Transport and Roads Minister Jenny Aitchison says.

“This investment by the Australian and NSW governments of $1.44 billion will improve safety and resilience while reducing congestion and improving access for local, tourist and freight traffic.”
