Company says empty container parks outside Victoria looking hard at its system

Containerchain, Melbourne’s empty-container logistics portal, could find its way to other states, Chief Operating Officer Terry Wicks has told ATN.
One week after “going live” at Port Melbourne Containers, the first of nine participating empty container parks, Wicks says interest in the solution is high.
“Containerchain is very pleased to have commenced switching its system on for empty container parks across Melbourne,” he says.
“Containerchain has fielded enquiries from operators in Sydney, Freemantle and Brisbane and looks forward to the opportunity to extend the features of the system to these container logistics communities.”
Though he was not in a position to name them, Wicks states that parks interstate see the initiative as the vehicle to improve internal park operations, satisfy their legal responsibilities under Chain of Responsibility legislation, provide the container transport operators with improved service levels and to provide their clients with improved asset visibility, management and utilisation.
“The Containerchain system is a highly automated on-line empty container management tool which collects and communicates data between the various stakeholders in the container logistics supply chain,” he adds.
“Containerchain’s functionality enables empty container parks and container transport operators to effectively communicate their capabilities and intentions with each other on a container by container basis, shifting the game from reactive to proactive.
“Containerchain provides access to information – previously unavailable – for empty container parks, container transport operators, shipping lines, freight forwarders, customs brokers, importers and exporters alike.”
