FedEx Australia has opened its new sortation and distribution facility in Coffs Harbour, with a view of supporting small and medium businesses to foster broader economic growth in the region.
The 2400 square-metre facility can sort up to 1300 packages per hour and is strategically located near the highway.
Coffs Harbour currently boasts a $5 billion Gross Regional Product (GRP), which is just under 0.7 per cent of NSW’s wider Gross State Product. It has been earmarked for extensive economic and population growth over the coming decades, with the population currently projected to grow by almost 29 per cent by 2041.
Vice President of FedEx Australia Peter Langley says the company is strategically placing itself to become a key pillar in Coffs Harbour’s extensive projected growth.
“This advanced facility represents a significant milestone in our commitment to enhancing our value proposition in Australia and creating greater access for customers while supporting the ongoing economic growth of regions like Coffs Harbour,” Langley says.
“By investing in infrastructure enhancements and service improvements in Australia, we enable faster and more efficient freight movement across the country.
“This expansion will not only strengthen our regional network and overall service offerings, but it also empowers local businesses to retain or even gain market share by providing the best possible last-mile delivery experience for their customers.”
The news of FedEx’s successful expansion into Coffs Harbour comes following the Transport Workers’ Union’s recent announcement it had reached an agreement with the company to improve pay and job security conditions following three months of negotiations.
