Port of Melbourne dredging project is ahead of schedule, according to quarterly report
The Port of Melbourne dredging project is on track, with a quarterly report saying 30 percent has been completed, and works are ahead of schedule.
A report, which looks at works from May 1 to July 31, says “significant progress has been made”.
According to the report, 1.89 million cubic metres was dredged in the two months leading up to July 31 and 6.26 million cubic metres has been dredged to date.
“This quarterly report provides a concise overview of project works, performance against the project’s Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and results for environmental and baywide monitoring programs,” Minister for Roads and Ports Tim Pallas says.
“The report shows that the program of structural upgrades to berths and infrastructure continued at Swanson Dock and 32 South Wharf and started at Holden Dock, Newport Park and Gellibrand Pier.”
Pallas says about 32 percent of the project has been completed and that the project is “on track” to be completed late in 2009.
