Victorian Transport Minister Terry Mulder has received high praise from the transport industry for his approach to freight and logistics issues.

Speaking on the last day of the Freight Week event in Melbourne, Victorian Transport Association (VTA) CEO Neil Chambers commended Mulder for his work, saying he “gets” the industry.

Mulder has been a keen advocate of high productivity vehicles in recent times, and this year unveiled a new policy to improve access for B-triples and B-doubles on the State’s road network.

“I think everyone would agree we have a minister who gets it, a minister who was in the portfolio for a long time prior to coming to government,” Chambers says.

“By the time you have been [in government] we are now really moving forward with a lot of fantastic work.”

Mulder, who addressed the audience at the Freight Outlook session today, says the Victorian Government is keen to work with the industry to ensure money is invested in the right projects.

“I’m passionate about the future of your industry, particularly in terms of the opportunities going forward,” he says.

“We believe as a government there is an enormous opportunity in front of us.”

Mulder also told attendees he would like the industry to view him in a favourable light.

“I’d like to think I’m viewed by the industry as a champion of freight logistics,” he says.
