Cat Trucks unscathed despite WesTrac cuts

Cat Trucks services will escape the impact of hefty job cuts at WesTrac announced by its parent firm, Seven Group

Cat Trucks services will escape the impact of hefty job cuts at WesTrac that were
announced by its parent firm, Seven Group.

As part of a restructure, WesTrac’s New South Wales and Canberra operations will shoulder 350 redundancies, the equivalent of about 10 percent of its workforce, starting this month.

But Cat parent NC2 says the announcement does not impact on Cat Trucks Centres within the WesTrac organisation.

NC2 Marketing & Communications Manager Glen Sharman points to economic data and ongoing media attention regarding the slowdown of mining within the resources industry as the catalyst for
“this unfortunate circumstance with staff in NSW” at WesTrac.

“Our sales, service and parts facilities throughout our dealer WesTrac (WA, NSW and ACT), which operates and
sells Cat Trucks and services Cat and associated North American OEM product, remain strong and continue to grow year on year,” Sharman says.

The transport industry appears to retain some attraction within Seven Group, with the news coming less than a fortnight after is joint review with Carlyle Group of their Coates Hire business, which involves truck rental, concluded with its ownership structure unchanged.

Any dilution of its road transport commitment would come as a shock, given its investment 12 months ago in a 23 hectare site that houses its Highway Truck Centre aimed at Cat Truck customers.
