Cat confirms engine support despite restructure

Caterpillar will honour engine service agreements 'for life' despite stepping back from the truck market

Caterpillar says it will continue to provide parts and service support for the life of all its truck engines in Australia, despite stepping back from the on-highway market.

A statement from the company confirms the commitment, which it insists is “in no way affected” by the decision in June to change direction in the on-highway market.

“We want to absolutely reassure local customers of our ability and commitment to provide parts and service support for the life of all our engines,” says Matt O’Sullivan, Caterpillar’s General Manager of On-Highway Asia Pacific.

He says Caterpillar will continue to support all levels of its authorised parts and service network, including authorised service outlets other than Cat dealers.

“Customers can have complete confidence that Caterpillar and our dealer network will continue to provide industry-leading parts availability and customer support throughout the life of all our engine products,” he says.

“Whether a customer purchased a Cat truck engine in 1968 or 2008, our customer will be able to get parts and service for the full life of the engine.

“It is important that we communicate to the industry that the same commitment to product support that made Caterpillar this country’s number one truck engine supplier is still very much in evidence.”

The global company announced in June it will scale back production of on-highway engines in favour of off-highway units, while forming a new partnership with Navistar to explore future on-highway truck business opportunities.

The company said at the time it would “cooperate” on a variety of engine platforms with Navistar in the future.
