Bureaucrats needed for NSW transport mega-department

The NSW Government’s shake-up of its transport bureaucracy has started to take shape with a recruitment drive for middle managers in four divisions.

The Government is seeking to fill 22 positions in Freight and Regional Development, Planning and Programs, Transport Services and Customer Experience. In Freight and Regional Development, general managers are needed for strategy, policy and industry relations and for network efficiency and regulation are sought, along with principal managers for industry and stakeholder management; policy and reform; and regulation management.

The NSW Government’s shake-up of its transport bureaucracy has started to take shape with a recruitment drive for middle managers in four divisions.

The Government is seeking to fill 22 Transport for NSW positions in Freight and Regional Development, Planning and Programs, Transport Services and Customer Experience.

In Freight and Regional Development, general managers are needed for strategy, policy and industry relations and for network efficiency and regulation are sought, along with principal managers for industry and stakeholder management; policy and reform; and regulation management.

The Government hopes to have the division up and running by November 1.

“It is the first time that NSW will have a dedicated division within Transport looking at Freight and Regional Development issues,” a spokesman for Roads Minister Duncan Gay says.

“The division will take an integrated approach focused on getting the right load on the right mode, so that we are moving product from paddock to port and ship to shop as efficiently as possible.”

The new Deputy Director General for Freight and Regional Development, Rachel Johnson, took her post on September 12.

Her previous roles include:

  • General manager of the Westlink M7 Motorway, overseeing strategic planning, motorway operations, maintenance, tolling operations and administration
  • Linfox vice president strategy
  • Pacific National – general manager grain division, during the integration of FreightCorp and National Rail to create Pacific National
  • Patrick Corporation – Queensland manager general stevedoring
  • GrainCorp – Gladstone Port manager.
