Brown & Hurley takes top prize at CVIAQ awards

Apprentice mechanic Paul Armstrong is this year's CVIAQ Apprentice of the Year Award winner

Apprentice mechanic Paul Armstrong is this year’s Commercial Vehicle Industry Association of Queensland’s (CVIAQ) Apprentice of the Year Award winner.

The awards, which were held last Wednesday, are sponsored by ATN.

Armstrong, who works for Brown & Hurley Group and is completing a Certificate III Automotive Mechanical Technology, received awards valued at $2,000.

The event, now in its 31st year, is open to apprentices in the final stages of their training from the heavy vehicle repair, service and manufacturing sectors.

Brown & Hurley Group Service Manager Chris Chalmers received the Apprentice of the Year perpetual trophy, which acknowledges the dedicated effort of employers in the training of their apprentices.

MTU Detroit Diesel/TORGAS’s Peirre Du Plessis and Haulmark Trailers’ Clinton Willems were given high achievement awards valued at $800.

Ben Thomas from the Brown & Hurley Group, Jared Edwards from Brisbane Isuzu, Nathaniel Wraight from Haulmark Trailers and Ken Chamberlain from Brisbane Isuzu were awarded certificates of merit, receiving tools valued at $500.
