The Australian Logistics Council (ALC) is celebrating another successful Wayfinder Freight Heartland Tour, this time in Brisbane, despite the imminent impact of Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

Participants visited the Primary Connect (Woolworths) facility in Heathwood, the Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Distribution Centre in Richlands and the Coles Automated Distribution Centre in Redbank as part of the tour to gain real-world insights into modern supply chain operations.

The unfortunate presence of the cyclone off the coast of south-east Queensland necessitated the postponement of a tour of the Port of Brisbane as part of the event to a later date.

Wayfinder’s Freight Heartland Tours aim to tackle significant supply chain and logistics workplace challenges through the exposure of the industry to women. It is a fully integrated program of the ALC.

ALC CEO Dr Hermione Parsons says the prioritisation of diverse leadership is a key driver of the continued progression of the sector.

“The logistics industry has always been a leader in adapting to change,” she says. “Diversity is the next frontier in securing our competitiveness.

“Companies that prioritise diverse leadership teams are better equipped to manage supply chain disruptions, foster innovation and drive long-term growth.

“Wayfinder isn’t about quotas or restructuring businesses. It is about exposure, education and inspiration – ensuring we attract the best and brightest into the sector.”

A report by McKinsey in 2023 found that gender-diverse leadership teams are 25 per cent more likely to outperform their peers, while Deloitte research has highlighted organisations with inclusive cultures are twice as likely to meet or exceed financial targets and three times more likely to be high-performing.

Dr Parsons says the progression of diversity in the sector is a key strategic goal.

“The future of logistics is not about limitations – it is about strategic possibilities,” she continues.

“Diversity is a proven driver of innovation and resilience.

“This is not about ticking boxes. This is about ensuring logistics remains one of the most innovative, future-focused and resilient industries in the world.
