The new system at a Melbourne station will help give interstate drivers a place to rest
Following complaints about the availability of truck stop parking spots at the BP Epping service station in Melbourne’s north, BP has trialled a new truck stop parking system.
In conjunction with the Whittlesea City Council, BP Epping is implementing new parking restrictions this month to help ensure interstate truck drivers have spaces to park and rest for the night.
Ongoing issues have been reported at the stop as interstate drivers reported being left with nowhere to stop.
This meant some drivers had to detour up to 15 kilometres away just to find a space to rest for the night.
The new parking restrictions came into force on Monday April 11 and features two-hour parking.
Long haul drivers can register their need for a longer break with the customer service representative on duty at the BP Epping station.

“BP is happy to have worked closely with the Whittlesea City Council to implement parking restrictions at BP Epping earlier this month,” a BP spokesperson says.
“The parking restrictions are supported by 24/7 council patrols and will help ensure there are reliable parking places available for Australia’s interstate truck drivers to rest.”
BP says it will review the changes made after an eight-week period and will look to apply learnings from the Epping site to other sites across the country where possible.
