Wettenhalls Group CEO Matthew Blizzard is leaving the company after eight years to take a break and spend time with his family.
The 41-year-old father of two says it’s time to leave the 70-hour working week behind and concentrate on what’s most important to him.
Leaving with no regrets, Blizzard has pulled the company through the global financial crisis and expanded its profits from $25 million from when he first joined to $150 million.
During his time, the number of trucks has expanded from 41 in 2000 to 198 in 2009, with the number of staff growing from 115 to 520.
Blizzard’s last day at the company is tomorrow.
“I’m selling my shares and I’m not renewing my contract; it’s time to have a break, this company has been great for me and I loved it,” he says.
“I’ve done three consecutive business plans which I’ve achieved during my time here and I’ve been able to grow our brand in business by an average of 35 percent per annum.
“We’ve gone through the great financial crisis very strongly and we have diversified from a normal general carting carrying business to now a dedicated fast managing logistics business and we have the capabilities that we never had before.”
Blizzard has not yet been replaced, with interviews to be conducted next year.
He believes the company is successful because of its employees.
With only one advice to the next CEO, Blizzard says: “Build on the foundations that have been here and continue to focus on the people as your core asset”.
