Road closures, flash flooding and more severe storms on the way in Queensland, limiting access on the Bruce Highway

The wild weather that battered South East Queensland yesterday looks set to cause more trouble as a severe front moves north.
Some areas of Brisbane were drenched with up to 117mm of rain yesterday, while Beerwah in the Sunshine Coast recorded 150mm.
The Bureau of Meteorology says drivers heading north on the Bruce Highway should remain extremely cautious as areas north of Bundaberg come into the firing line.
“This system that bought the heavy rain has shifted northward along the Queensland coast and will hit Cairns eventually,” a spokesman from the Bureau says.
“Flash flooding along the Bruce Highway near areas like Gladstone, Rockhampton and Mackay is very possible. There is quite likely to be road closures near all of these centres along the Bruce Highway today.”
Queensland Police yesterday sent out a warning to all drivers to take “extreme caution” and limit travel in flood affected areas.
A spokeswoman from the Queensland Police says while there are no warnings in place at present it is very likely some will come as the weather sets in.
“We would advise truckies to keep an ear out for any warnings from the emergency services,” she says.
