NatRoad welcomes NSW Government decision to increase access for B-triples

NatRoad has labelled a New South Wales Government plan to increase access for B-triples a win for freight.
The national lobby group says it applauds NSW Roads Minister Duncan Gay for allowing B-triples to use the Newell Highway from Narrabri to Goondiwindi.
Operators will need to enrol in IAP, fit road-friendly suspension to the trucks and be a part of the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) to gain access.
“Modular B-triples are already operating on the road train network west of the Newell Highway, and this announcement by the minister opens up access to a 225km section of the Newell Highway, which will be a boost to industry productivity,” NatRoad CEO Chris Melham says.
“The increasing use of modular B-triples also delivers economic efficiencies of scale to the operator and environment benefits to the communities with less traffic on the road.”
Melham says NatRoad is working with councils along the Newell Highway to secure funding for upgrades to the network so that B-triples can eventually run the full length of the highway.
“NatRoad congratulations Minister Gay for this announcement, which will be a huge benefit to freight transport because of the Newell Highway’s key role as a freight corridor,” he says.
